Default Rim damage from lug nuts

Hi I have a 2016 edge Sport with 21" rims a Ford dealership who we took it in for oil change and tire rotation said they couldn't rotate because lug nuts swollen they suggested we purchase new lugs from auto store so we did and another dealership rotated tires with the new lug nuts ,we needed new tires so bought tires at Costco they wouldn't put them on our rims saying they were damaged by wrong or overtightighted nuts nuts has anyone else have a problem like this?

This is not an uncommon problem where salt gets into areas where oxidation can take place and the covering on the lug nuts swells and removal becomes difficult.

If any particular service agency over tightened the fasteners it will be difficult to prove. Hub caps, as they were known, prevented a lot of these problems , but nice open spoke type wheels are fair game.
Our safety rides on good wheels and not a good place to gamble on safety, you may need to replace the wheel(s).
There is a liability issue when places or individuals reinstall faulty wheels and not worth the gamble.

I believe you made a wise decision. Sometimes you get more flies with molasses than with vinegar. Maybe Ford will want to keep you as a good customer.
