Default 2008 Escape Grip Handle Install

I'm posting this because I couldn't find anything on the subject. So, here goes:Adding a Passenger Grip Handle to a 2008 Escape not so equipped from the factoryPart Number Part Name 9L8Z-7803598-AB Windshield Pillar Trim, RIGHT 9L8Z-7831406-AB Handle, RIGHT 9L8Z-7831458-BB Handle Cover 9L8Z-7831458-AB Handle Cover Note: For Escapes not originally fitted with a passenger side grip handle. And, the pillar post does not have nut plates in place to secure the handle. If yours has the nut plates, add 2 each "-W505144-S307 Handle Screw, RIGHT" to your order. Lucky you!Available from:

What else you'll need (available at Ace Hardware)- Well Nut x 2: #10-32 (Neoprene Rubber with Captive Brass nut) 1/2" deep for 3/8" hole- Socket Bolt x 2: #10-32 3/4"- Flat washer x 4: #10Tools: a 3/8" drill bit, a socket bolt driver (Allen wrench or bit), pliars, gentle screw driverStep by step:1. Pop off the pillar trim molding. Mine was teathered at the top with a black plastic fitting. Completely remove the teather and discard.2. Locate the 2 holes already in the pillar at the proper locations for the handle mounts (upper 2).3. Drill both holes out to 3/8" and clean off any jagged burrs.4. Insert a well nut in the upper whole you just expanded.5. Snap on the new trim piece starting at the bottom.6. Pry the weather stripping back to the outside of the pillar trim.7. Install the lower socket bolt, washers, and well nut on the handle being sure the well nut doesn't begin to expand. (Put one washer on the bolt. Put bolt through the mounting hole on the handle. Put 2 washers on the bolt shaft. Screw the well nut on until contacting the washers.)8. Push the lower well nut installed on the handle into it's hole in the pillar. Might need some spit for lube.9. Push and hold the handle hard into position while tightening the bolt so that the well nut stays inside the pillar structure and doesn't turn in the hole.10. Insert the upper bolt with a washer into the handle and into the well nut. Tighten as above.11. Jiggle handle and retighten the bolts 2 or three times (remember, the nuts are brass so screwdriver tight is enough) 12. Plug in the bolt hole covers
