JF-5 says, if Yes go to Pinpoint Test Z. I assume that is in a different document.

Both fans work with power directly to them

I also removed the VC to see if there were any metal chunks around the cams. Everything looks good. Nothing in the oil that I can see from there.
I also noticed that there is nothing to bump that could throw off the CMP (as someone else suggested as a possibility) There is just a slot cut into the end of the forward camshaft. I guess the CMP senses when that slot passes the sensor and knows the cam positions. Nothing to bump or mess with.

Thank you. I read though that and I really don't think that is going to help me. The pinpoint Z tests seem to be geared towards intermittent issues. My issue is constant.

Though not related to P03562, I think the real issue I need to tackle is the CMP to CKP sync. I don't know what that means, how it checks for it, if there is supposed to be sync all the time or just while starting. I'm getting in over my head and losing confidence that I can fix this.

Thanks for the pinpoint tests. They confirmed the COPs are firing like they should, but I still have a P0352. Maybe that's because I can't get it running long enough to reset the DTCs and get a good reading of them again. I could be chasing ghosts.

The P0352 diagram above mentions about P0351 so here's the diagram for it.

Ok, so I found out why it won't run. The piston in cylinder 3 has a hole in it. I wanted to swap the spark plugs around to see if the issue would follow. The spark plug in cyl 3 would not come out. I knew immediately something was wrong. Once I got it out, the electrode end was mangled and gone. Here is a picture of the piston.

I'll donate it to charity or to the local high school automotive shop.

Only left is to see if I can figure out what happened. I replaced the spark plugs, compared them to the old ones and everything looked the same. It ran great for 20 minutes and then it went down hill from there.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the info, advice, and pinpoint tests. Now on to fixing my Excursion.
