2008 Ford Escape Brake System Diagnosis
- The issue started two days ago when I could not move the automatic shifter out of park. I checked the brake lights and they did not work.
- The turn signals did work but I checked the fuses and they were fine. So I bought a Brake Light Switch.
- On my way to the auto parts store, I got a warning to check the brake system and the ABS light turned on.
- I replaced the brake light switch. It did not change anything.
- Finally I got a message that the regen braking system was disabled.
- Symptoms: Can't shift out of Park, brake lights do not work, later ABS light turned on with a message to check the brake system, shortly after that the regen braking system was disabled.
- Already tried: Fuses, Brake Light Switch.

You didn't tell us this was a hybrid..
The brake lights usually have a separate fuse, did you check all the fuses, engine compartment and inside the vehicle?
There is more going on here than just no brake lights .I would suspect the regular brake system finally communicated a brake problem to the hybrid section.
I don't know if you know how to use a test light, but with that you could verify if power is available to the stop light sw assy.. A good place to start checking.
