Hello all, I'm new here and have a problem with the lift gate not opening on my 2009 Escape. The glass pops opens but when the button is pressed for the lift gate only a faint click is heard and does not open. It just started doing this recently.
Does the lift gate act the same regardless of which button is pressed, I believe there is one inside the vehicle and one on the lift gate itself in addition to a button on some key fobs.
Are you able to get the liftgate open if you pull up when the click happens?
Have you tried the manuel over ride release?
Can you hear if anything moves in the latch when you lock and unlock the car?
Thank you for your quick reply!! The vehicle is still new to me and not familiar with all features such as a manual lift gate over ride, but will check. The lift gate performs the same way regardless of using the remote or the switch on the lift gate. I will investigate further and report back, ty once again!!
I don't see anything in the owner's manual about a lift gate override. It appears that the lift gate latch is being summoned when the button is pressed but not enough to disengage?
Ok I was wrong I don't see instructions for a manual release for the lift gate, usually ford puts a little removable trim panel that if you remove and mechanically release the latch.
I highlighted all the fuses and relays related that can be replaced if you want to try and replace them first, but based on what youve said they should all be fine.
What I would do it remove the liftgate interior panel and disconnect the liftgate latch connector and check if it receives 12V when the unlock and liftgate release button is pressed.
Honestly Im not sure how to get the liftgate open if the latch wont release since I dont see a manual release, there are four screws in the button that I dont think you can access with the liftgate closed.
You might be able to pull the top part off and and get your hand on the latch to force it to release. Of course you do risk damaging the trim panel doing this but Ive had to do similar on other vehicles and as long as you dont bend the trim panel down to much it was fine.
