Default 2013 Ford Escape Hard Shifting

I have a 2013 Ford Escape and have recently noticed a very hard shift into reverse after the car has been sitting for an extended period of time, decreased power upon acceleration for the first 30 seconds or so, and a decrease in fuel economy. I have noticed no leaks. Could someone guide me on the direction of where to start in diagnosing the problem?

You said extended period of time which is how long?
You said you noticed no leaks, you mean on the floor or you topped off everything but they were still full?

I apologize, I meant overnight, not extended period of time. I have noticed no leaks in my carport where I park. The only fluid I have added is coolant because it was a bit low.

Ford says you change your tranny fluid every 30K but most mechanics say every 100K and no later than 150K. So what's the mileage and have you ever changed it, when?
Next time while you warming up in the morning, stay inside and spend 3 to 5 minutes, set the parking brake and step on the pedal and shift to every gear and hold for like 30 seconds, on reverse perhaps 2 minutes. It helps a bit when you lubricate all the gears when cold.

It has 175,000 so I’m definitely overdue. I had no idea. I guess I assumed sealed transmission meant that wasn’t possible. In my defense however, I am a single mom who’s mechanical knowledge doesn’t go much further than what Youtube can teach me the quickest lol. I will for sure try your suggestions though & thank you!!

If you drive a Mazda with Skyactiv then yes it's sealed and no need to change tranny fluid because it can't be changed, if the tranny goes bad you replace a new one, but your Escape is a Ford not a Mazda so you know it's way overdue. My suggestion was just a quick fix.

Not sure if yours has a drain plug, if not it can get very messy especially to a lady if you need to drop the pan. Hard shifting is just a sign to signal you that you should waste no time and have it serviced by a mechanic. Do the rear differential fluid change as well if it's the 1st time.
