2018 Escape, multiple problems
P0303 is Cylinder misfire. I had that a had that this summer with my sons car. 2018 Escape 1.5L. Check your engine coolant. Is it low? There was and issue with coolant leaking into the cylinders. I replaced the spark plus and coil. I filled my coolant up properly and that issue went away. The rough running is the coolant in the cylinder and you can tell by looking at the old plug. Bad part is, all I did was replace those two things and did an oil change and the problem has never come back which contradicts all the blogs on coolant leaking in the cylinders. I check the coolant once every few weeks and it stays the same now.
For you evap issue, I have had to replace the purge valve assembly a few times and have been purchasing them on Amazon. The valve is that monstrous spider tubing with the valve hard sealed on! It will fix Po496 errors and the issue of car not starting right up after adding gas! And no, my kid doesn't over-fill the tank.

Thank you everyone for posting info to this thread. I also had a misfire P0304. Had it diagnosed at a ford dealer. Called Ford several times and i got a consistent story of how to proceed in having ford pay something towards the repair.
For any consideration, the problem had to be diagnosed by ford ($150) then haggle with a second tier case manager. First tier enters info to their system. Cost to replace the engine was 8300 priced one way but ford made the dealer drop to 8000.
After stating the known problem, and the case manger knew of it, and asked if the tranny was having problems too... the person came back with ford chipping in 2600. after escalating to a manager (3rd tier?), they upped it to 3200.
Still too much for a design flaw. My acceptance is still pending and it lasts for roughly a month. Note, a 2017 was in the shop for the exact same problem/diagnosis when i brought mine in! Ridiculous. Anyway, i joined this group just to share the story because it may benefit someone else. For me, i don't care anymore. I'm done with ford. My extended family will be discouraged from buying ford. My friends and clubs will be discouraged from buying ford (roughly 500 direct contacts). My insurance agent is done with ford. She had an escape and it had so many issues she had dumped it already. I bought a honda crv hybrid. it's still being assembled. too bad for ford. i loved the escape. drove well, nice acceleration, etc. 2018 ford escape titanium. gone. got a piddly 3500 for a trade without repair but i couldn't sleep unless i disclosed the issue.

I had 89K on mine when it started and was able to go another 14K before I took it in. I also had transmissions issues while still under warranty but when I took it in, they said could not find anything. I traded mine in on a 2024 Rav4 and I was able to get 7K for the trade-in. Toyota said that if it will drive across the auction line its fine with them! I would have considered trading with the Ford dealer on a new Escape but the idea that they tried to sell me a new engine for a known problem made me decide to never buy a Ford again.
My 2018 Ford Escape suffered a catastrophic engine failure after only 35k miles in spite of it being meticulously serviced by Ford including its recommended major 30k mile service in March 2024 (i.e., oil change, injector cleaning, crankcase cleaning, coolant conditioner, automatic transmission fluid exchange, etc). My Ford dealership is telling me that oil leaked into the cylinders causing severe damage. My car is out of warranty (time, not mileage related), but my dealership asked for Ford Assistance on a new engine, because they agree that this engine isn't supposed to fail at 35k as long as it has been correctly serviced (i.e., they have all the records showing I did just that). I've read that both the 1.5- and 2.0-liter turbo-charged engines have had cooling problems and some have catastrophically failed due to coolant in the cylinders (i.e., defects in the seals and cylinders). Ford Corporate originally offered to pay for the engine ($7400) if I paid for installation ($5700). Although I am disappointed if it truly is a defective engine, I agreed to the deal. Unfortunately, Ford Corporate has been "reviewing" my case now for over 1 month with no approval in site and I've been carless (borrowing a friend's car). My local dealership is also frustrated as they are empathetic with my situation. Reading through past posts on this forum I see that others have had similar engine failure issues, but not oil in cylinders. My brother-in-law, who works at an independent repair garage says that they see lots of 4 cylinder Ford Ecoboost engine failures and believes I should tow the car to them where they'll do a diagnostic examination to determine root cause of the failure. If it's an engine defect possibly tied to the coolant issue, they recommend that I file a claim with Ford or file a lawsuit if I get pushback. Sounds very expensive and time consuming. Any suggestions?
I would consider getting it corrected , then unload it . Get the most you can with a trade, just not another Ford.
Maybe some place will take it as is, but you will most likely not get as much as if it is in reasonable condition.. What do you think ?
