I have a 2018 Ford Escape with 40,000 miles. I changed spark plugs for the first time. 3 of them came right out. One of them would not move period. I sprayed penetrating oil and spent 3 hours slowly working it. Finally, I was relieved when it came out, only to my horror find only the top half came out. The threads are still inside. So if you look inside the hole, it looks like nothing is there. However the threads are still there.
Any chance this plug was cross threaded and defective from the factory? Should I take it to the dealership, or are they going to take me for all my money?

Any good shop should be able to handle the extraction of the remaining part. It will require some special tools though, and best to make sure before assigning the job.

Thanks for your response. I called around to several shops. Some claimed they did not have the tools. Others said they could do it. I ultimately elected to bring it to the Ford dealership. They cannot look at it until next week. I decided to bring it to the Ford dealership, since the car is too new to have this happen. Maybe by some miracle I can get them to cove the cost as a manufacturing defect. Regardless, they should have the tools and experience to fix it correctly,
Had a very hard time with one plug as well but managed it out on my 2017 escape. Check out this TSB maybe your plug problem is a symptom? https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...tWX4xEDmk3L7tw
Happened to my escape which was just out of warranty but they covered 75% of the cost.

Done that TSB many times now, never had a plug broken off in the head. Its possible the head will need to be removed to extract the broken part so little bits dont get in the cylinder and kill the engine.
