I crashed into a ditch and severly bent the control arm as seen pictured below compared to a new one. In trying to bend back the mount on the subframe (front passenger side) I broke off half of the bracket where the bolt goes through.

I want to fab up a new one and weld it on, but need to make sure its at the right dimensions and alignment to prevent any wheel alignment issues as well. Any ideas how to mock up where it needs to be so it will be in the exact location? Since there is really no point of reference I was wondering if you had any ideas, and also ideas for how to fabricate something new.

 

We do what we need to do, however, it is not wise to play around with steering and suspension parts. If you cannot purchase a new replacement consider getting one from a salvage yard(junk yard). It is advised to never attempt to straighten any of these parts because if they fail, and they do, an attorney will own your car, home and everything else. Just not a good idea !
There are usually stress and fracture cracks that are not always visible and can fail later.

professional body shops would never try to repair this. if they wouldn't, a backyarder shouldn't either. subframe from a bone yard and then have it aligned. You will want to look at the secondary alignment readings to determine if the struts are bent.
