That site formerly let people order replacement Nav DVDs for model years prior to 2009; everything is discontinued now, of course. Looks like one could have had the GPS nav option for 2008 in:

Edge
Escape (ICE and hybrid)
Expedition, Expedition L
Explorer, Explorer Sport Trac
F-150
Fusion
Mustang
Super-Duty (F-250 / F-350 / F-450)
Taurus, Taurus X
Mercury Mariner (ICE and Hybrid)
Mercury Milan
Mercury Mountaineer
Mercury Sable

I have no idea how to determine how many vehicles were produced WITH the GPS nav option with date/clock display AND which are still on the road. But that is definitely going to be quite a bit more than the 50,000 cars I was ballparking. !

I suggest everyone call Ford Customer Care tomorrow (800-392-3673) and let them know you are displeased about this obvious and predictable coding error which they should have known about (since it was widely known by at least 1999, long before these cars were produced). And ask them what they intend to do about this embarrassing and glaring error which all of us will be staring at for as long as these cars are still on the road. (!)
I do plan on contacting them. Thanks again for your research.. Hopefully if enough people contact them something will be done...

I wonder if there are 2008 Escapes with Nav that do not have this problem due to a firmware update or a newer Nav DVD.

My System Info shows:
HW: 8L8T-18K931-AF
SW: 3.030000

And it is definitely affected by this bug. Are there any Escape or Mariner owners that do not have this problem that could share this info?

Default Called ford today,

They tried saying this was the first time that they were hearing of this and that they do not support the system anymore, the person on the phone suggested to put an after market unit in.

I figured that would be their answer, and likely too small an issue for an aftermarket fix other than purchasing a new unit.

Can you post a picture of the display with the date please, would like to know how much it would get on my nerves?
