Default Install Larger Alternator in 2002 Escape?

2002 Escape 6cyl
The stock alternator in the Escape seems to be too small. When turning on a full load of accessories the voltage at the battery drops to 10.5V
How many Amps output do they come stock with? Are there higher output units available? The battery seems like it's on the lower edge of OK; maybe it has been compromised by the weak alternator.

Before changing anything, you need to conduct an alternator output test to see what the alt is capable of putting out.
Just measuring voltages only tells you there may be a problem with the alt or connections or how it's output is controlled..
Suggest having a qualified shop check out the entire system..

I have a meter I can do an output test with. I could do that or just pull it off now and get it tested on the machine at the parts store.
Was it a common problem that they came with barely adequate sized alternators? The owner of this one said it always seemed week ever since it was new, and the dealer told him they were all like that. It really drops out when you turn on all the accessories and lights.
Thanks

You need an ammeter that can read at least 80-100 amps. Then load the system and see what the total output is.
The output can be affected by the wiring, connections and the alt.
If you don't have the equip to do the tests, have a shop that knows how and has the equip to very simply run the checks..

Excellent, thanks for that. I should be able to do that (been licensed since 1982) if my meter is capable. I'll check the booklet. I always like discussing things, as I can't think of it all.
Thanks a bunch.

You are not alone, as I'm sure you'll agree, watch out for the one who thinks they know it all. They not only get themselves into trouble , but can get us there too, IF we let them.
If you would let us know how you make out with this, thanks.

My btother (passed on) used to say, BS baffles the mind. Proverbs says that evem a fool can be considered wise if he keeps his mouth closed.
