Default Low fuel indicator 2013 Ford Escape SEL Fwd

Just picked up a 2.0 L 2013 Ford Escape. Love the vehicle but I noticed that the low fuel indicator (amber light) comes on at about 140 km left to empty. Filled up tank and it came on with about 130 km left to empty. The gage on the tank showed 1/4 left and not close to empty. Dealer said that it is normal as it is telling you if you are on a long trip then you should fill up soon but that early? Is this normal for light to come on this early? Can anyone provide some advice?

Don't worry about it unless the gauge is half full it should only come on when it's about 1/8 to 1/4 full

I thought as much. Thanks! My previous cars, the light would come on towards the end of the tank. This is my first Ford.

If you take real good care it as with any auto it will take care of you. Just keep a good maintenance schedule on it and watch the mileage just keep going up with fewer problems than most autos and don't neglect it in any way. A little advice on this is drive it normally and not like you stole it either but baby it

Hi Grindman,
Thanks for the advice. Currently 502 km on the vehicle. Trying to break it in nicely by not exceeding 100km/hr for the first 1,000 km. The indicator light came on a bit a later with 130 km as opposed to 140 km left to empty the first time. Should it be reducing as time goes on to a more a accepatable level like 50 km left to empty?
