we have a 2008 escape powering steering assist is starting to go, it started with the power steering not working on starting , turn off then on again and it may reset itself, iffy most times at best, now within a week of this happening the steering wheel is pulsing, now having to restart vehicle 10 - 12 times before the power assist will kick in.
after researching this problem on line I found out this is a very common problem, there are hundreds of the same vehicles with the exact same problem, with some vehicles losing there power steering while some are driving. Called local ford service they said it is not on recall at this time but if it at some point does come to recall ford will reimburse us the cost!!! Local ford says they haven't reached the magic number YET to start recalling YET!!!!
Ford is currently charging between 1500.00 - 2000.00 to fix this problem as they have to pull the steering coloum, oh plus wheel alignment!!! contacted our local service station as we are not giving ford any more of our hard earned cash, they did the same exact same vehicle 2 days ago.
Ford escapes are garbage vehicles and ford motor company is having us the buyer pay for fixing this vehicle when they are fully aware of this problem.
I will be trading this off on either a Toyota corolla or Honda accord enough with the ford garbage and worse the ford company enabling us the driver to drive a unsafe vehicle
