Default Transmission Vent?

Hello, just noticed this hose in the top of the auto transmission isn't connected to anything and curious if it is a vent located between the battery tray and air horn . I've researched the Chilton repair manual, Youtube, Ford Parts Online and can't seem to locate any info. 2005 Ford Escape 2.3 automatic tranny if anyone can point me in the right direction for whether part of it is missing, how it might terminate, connect to a valve/guard or similar would be greatly appreciated please. Also, is there a means to donate here as I have turned here time and again over the years with questions and you guys have been there for me. Thanks for a great source of knowledge and information for us old newbies!

!!

Can we ask, where does the other end of that hose go? Difficult to tell from pix and not being there to see.

Absolutely! I pulled the air horn to get a better pic and also included a pic I found online to give the exact location on the tranny. I appreciate your assistance Hanky!

Here is where I'm coming from, every auto trans just about, needs a vent to relieve the internal pressure from the expanding volume of the heated fluid.

From the pix that appears to be the vent. Usually there is a metal tube that the hose can connect to and it appears to be missing.

Temporarily,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,you might be able to use a piece of plastic soda straw to allow a connection for the hose or a piece of metal tubing. If water or dirt get into that hole,,
NOT GOOD , then trans needs to be drained and clean fluid added with new filter. That hose should only bend over enough so no contaminants can get in there. Driving through floods will cool trans and suck in water if hose is too long.

Great info and makes perfect sense. I'll compare mine to others on my next trip to Pull-A=Part, maybe they'll have what I need and I'll do as you suggest until I can get across town. I appreciate you and can I send you some Amazon or Paypal for your troubles?

Thank you for your consideration.

If it pleases you, you might consider a million dollar winning lottery ticket that I would be happy to share, lol.

If you can, consider sharing your knowledge with other folks on the forum.

When I get that lottery ticket, I certainly will and in the meantime, folks will have to settle for the knowledge and experience LOL!! I'm closing in on debugging and wrapping up my transplant saga. Thank you, Hanky!

Default Pic of the vent

Scored one yesterday at PAP if anyone needs to make a replacement. Hanky, you were spot-on!
