Default What is this hose?

Hi I just bought a 2002 Escape with a 6 cylinder (v6 I think). A hose broke and my car overheated. You can only see the hose from underneath. It is a small short hose. One end connects to a metal line. I can see where the other end connects but I can't make out what the apparatus is that it connects to. If you are laying on the ground under the engine the hose is going to be left of center. That is, it's going to be closer to the driver's side. I need to identify it so I can see if it is something I can repair myself. Thanks for your help.

If you can,
Since you state the engine overheated you did check the coolant level, right? It is better if you state , driver's side or passenger side.

Not sure if there any coolant lines where you describe.
Did you check the trans fluid level, motor oil level, ?
