Changing A.T. Transmission

Default Changing A.T. Transmission

Hi! I've changed alot of rear drive trannys but not FWD, I need to change 96 escort much different or not?

In my opinion, very much different. Where you supported the engine from under the vehicle with rear drive, now you have to support the engine from above the engine. There was a cradle that had to be removed before you could remove the trans and it gets involved. The half shafts have to be pulled out of the transaxle, engine supported, starter removed, all the usual wires disconnected etc. If you are going to do this get a GOOD manual to assist you . To me, at least, it was like a night /day difference. Check with a disassembly instruction manual before starting the job and see if you want to tackle it. After you check the procedure let me know what you think OK ?

Hank I want to thank you for the info I did what you suggested, good manual and read. I changed it in 3 days. Your very right it is night and day. Again thanks
