Default engine cutting out

have a 1999 escort. takes a few turns of the key to start. then when it does it turns off. when it does stay started it will day sometimes. i have two codes one i dont know(P1744) the other(P0118) is engine coolant temp(ECT). any suggestions?

I believe the 1744 code involves the torque converter clutch stuck in the off position which could be caused by an electrical or mechanical problem, but not knowing which it is other areas could be affected by it.
The PO118 comes from high input from the coolant sensor circuit. It could be the sensor or even a coating on the sensor itself . If the sensor has two wires it may have lost its ground connection.
