Default Speedo Issues

Hi all, first post on here and, I'm happy to be here

I recently inherited a 1992 Ford Escort LX wagon (auto gearbox) with only 46,000 original miles on the clock. It's a fairly decent vehicle but, it sat for a number of years in the garage. So far, I have done a complete tune up and, it's running a lot better than it did. I have a few issues that I need your help with though please;

1) Speedo not working. I have replaced the cable etc but, it still doesn't work. Upon searching the forums, I found that there is a speedo gear on the transaxle. I pulled the speedo cable at the gearbox and left the adapter in. I made a mark on the adapter and went for a quick spin around the block. Seems to me like the adapter did not move one bit during my drive so, I guess I need to replace the Speedo gear question is, how do I do that? Also having some shifting/power put down problems but, I'm assuming that's to do with the clutch plates etc so, I pretty much know what I have to do with that.

2) A smallproblem but nevertheless, a problem! When I open the drivers door, the chimes will sometimes sound along with the dome light sometimes working. They tend not to work more often than not. Guessing it's something to do with the wiring harness but, I'm not sure where the sensor is in the door to tell the ECU that the door is open.

One last thing, where is a good place to get parts for these cars? Ebay is ok but, they don't have what I'm looking for and, the junk yards have NOTHING!!

Thanks for all responses in advance,

C

**Edit - I sorted out the electrical issue but, I'm still having the problem with the Speedo......any ideas?**
