Default stalled into a turn, slow speed

2002 ford escort just stalled while making a turn while trying to park. started immediately, no noises. I know that I will need soon to replace the power steering pump. when it is cold it likes to seize a little and makes a whine. so that's on the horizon, but is that a reason for it to stall out? the steering did feel like it seized when the car stalled. this is so far a singular incident, but would like to get the opinions of other escorters on this matter. glad for your help.

110+thousand, tune up within the last year. maybe about 8 months back. actually just finished redoing the engine cooling system. replaced everything but the fan and the gauge. valve grind, gaskets, checked the head for cracks, etc.
