Default vehicle speed sensor broke off

my wife has a 1999 ford escort 2.0 ...i was trying to change the vehicle speed sensor and the gear end broke off in the transmission...it didnt fall in..the little rod came out with the sensor but left a metal gear with a hole in the middle in the transmission...i have tryed everything except dynamite to get that damn thing out but it wont budge...it seems to be the original factory one when the car was built..does anybody have a idea how you get it out...i swear i hate this car from hell

The problem is most likely due to the action with two dissimilar metals . A product like "PB Blaster" Penetrating spray works wonders on frozen parts and would be worth a try. Just let it soak for a few hours and try turning it with vise grips to loosen it . Might work!

As a last resort, what are your thoughts on this?
Drain the fluid , drop the pan so you can get the chips, run a tap through the inner hole with a decent thread then run a bolt with matching thread into the broken part with a larger nut or socket that will fit over the trans opening and a flat washer over the nut/socket and turn the screw or nut depending on which you choose, in until it pulls the broken part loose. Sometimes heat will do the trick , but I do not know if there is enough room to do that safely and PB burns too !

You know how this works, right?
The other guy is gonna get it on the lift and it will probably come out on the first try because it had plenty of time to soak. Some things just defy explanation !
