04 rebuilt tranny problem
Helll everyone. I have a problem and hope I can find some help.
Little back story. The reverse went out on me while I was on a trip about 1000 miles from home. All other gears worked fine. Drove it home and rebuilt transmission. Reverse still didn’t work but all other gears were fine. Changed the reverse piston, reverse works again but now O/D is not working. Decided to change all pistons because the 2-3 accumulatior was blown and we thought that was the problem.
So, i can drive the truck in 1st and 2nd gear but once it hits 3rd, the rmps go up to about 3000 and it drops into neutral. I turn my o/d off and dive like that but now my o/d light is blinking. O/D was working fine before we rebuilt that transmission. Could it be a sensor that’s out? I haven’t brought it to get the codes read because I don’t know if I can drive it that far with that light blinking. Any help would be appreciated!! Thank you!
Hi 614,
From what I was able to check it appears that shift solenoid #2 is not working.
You know I had to ask the next questions,
what kind of rebuild did you do to have missed the piston and accumulator seal problems?
Don't take offense, but I'm getting the impression you are winging it or not being as thorough as you should be.
When you keep opening it up and are not very careful, some things go wrong.
You can ohm check the solenoid before replacing it to be sure it is either defective OR malfunctioning due to some other thing affecting the solenoid.
You will eventually get it straightened out !

Thank you so much for the advice! And unfortunately the rebuild was kind of a rush job so we didn’t even think to check the pistons when it was taken apart. The only problem we saw was the snap ring holding the reverse piston in place was broken. Replaced the snap ring but didn’t check the piston itself. And the 2-3 accumulator “cap” was put in upside down the first time (again, our fault for not paying attention). But we will check the solenoid and hope that’s the problem. Again, thank you so much!
