2000 Expedition downshift clunk
Hello All,
I just looked at a used 2000 Expedition. It was in great shape with the 5.4L and 108,000 miles. While I was test driving it, I was really trying to put it through it's paces. Hard throttle, hard braking, switching o-drive on and off. When I was cruising a long coasting from 45 to 40 mph, there was a hard clunk. The transmission seemed to already downshift at about 43, and then after that clunk that could be heard and felt. I was reading a previous forum post Update on 2000+ 3rd-2nd downshift Clunk and was wondering if this is what was happening?
Is there a fix for this?
Should I not buy the Expedition b/c of this issue?
Does this cause any reliability issues?
Any advice appreciated as I don't want to buy it if it has a bad transmission/overdrive. Thanks!
