A few side notes to keep in mind.
Some charging systems now use the PCM to control alternator output.
If you can when possible , get your replacement alternator for Fords, From Ford.! Some rebuilders just can't seem to get them right and when installed, the light still won't go out.
Usually a local alternator rebuilder will take care of your alternator and do a good job, plus if there is any problem , they are close to you.
Some charging systems would make the light go out even if it was charging only 1 amp. Of course this allowed the battery to get drained and go dead falsely indicating a defective battery. A better way to confirm charging is to measure the output (current -amps) under load. If an alt was rated at 85 amps, it should at least put out close to 85 amps when the system is loaded, A/C, defrosters , blower motor on hi , headlights on hi beam, etc..The reading will usually drop down after a few minutes of charging.
