Cool 2003 Ford Expedition stalls while driving

My 2003 Ford Expedition 5.4l V8 triton has died while I was driving twice now. I have read several posts and have tried a few of the fixes listed.

I recently took it to a shop cause it was running really rough and had the check engine light on, they replaced one of the ignition coils, 8 spark plugs including boots, and the fuel filter (this was 1/19/2012) I

It does not run rough, I will loose power in the gas pedal ( when I give it gas it does not respond) and then the engine will cut out, after I pull to the side it will immeadiatly start again. It will run for a couple days then it will die again. This is not throwing any code. Even though the check engine light was not on, I had it hooked to a reader and it passed.

I followed the wire off the battery over the AC hose, and even though it was not frayed I could see where it had been rubbing so I wrapped the wire with electrical tape and secured the foam cover so it would not shift down the AC hose anymore, I saved myself from a future problem...

I have put a higher octane gas in today with some engine cleaner additive (additech milelege booster) and inspected the air filter which was filthy so I blew it out with my compressor and will replace it tomorrow.

My father in law is trying to get me to take it to a shop, but I am a stubborn female who has some knowledge on how to work on my car so I am not ready to claim defeat any suggestions from my fellow ford owners???

What fixes did you try?
It does not run rough but it does not react to the gas pedal. The reason could be a malfunctioning throttle position sensor. I would test it. There is a Youtube by Richpin where he shows how to do that.
It could be another electrical problem. So cleaning all contacts and making sure that all ground straps are in good condition may dispatch of your problem.
I bet Hanky has some ideas too.

Bluewind, I believe you covered the bases pretty well.
How many miles are on the vehicle?
Something you might want to check, the inertia switch . Give it a rap with your hand and you will hear the ball roll and open the circuit to the fuel pump. Then just depress the plunger on the top and reset it. There are so many things that depend on a good supply of electric current and many will not function properly if the available voltage drops past a certain level. You might want to check the cable that comes from the alternator to the battery and make sure it hasn't developed some corrosion possibly allowing a voltage drop in the system. Can't say this will correct the problem , but it involves the basics which are quite important.

Dear Fordfemale, you were correct to add Additech to your fuel for your rough running engine. Stalling and rough starts can be a sign of a dirty fuel system. Initially it may take a few treatments to get all the gunk out. Then you can maintain it every other fill up. Best wishes!

I have had the EXACT SAME PROBLEMS WITH MINE FOR MONTHS NOW AND WE HAVE TRIES ALL THE "fixes" she finally gave out on me and an amazing mechanic fixed her. It is the fuel pump... its costing us $770 but she runs like a champ now. And we could have saved a lot of money on all the plugs coils and other stuff we replaced. Hope this helps!

Good point gatorcreek. Checking the fuel pressure should be on the to-do list.
