2012 ford exped

My son was driving our expedition home from work last night and got into a wreck. He is ok! Question for anyone? he stated he lost power to the brakes and steering at the same time. Any ideas what may caused this?

IF,,,,,,,,,,,,the vehicle as hydraulic power steering and Hydoboost brake system , that would be possible.
