Hey all,

looking at Ford coil packs versus aftermarket coil packs for 2012 Ford Expedition w/5.4 engine and 178000 miles on the SUV.
Dealership charging $65 per pack and On Amazon I can get 8 coil pack and spark plugs for $185

i would love yo get insight on pros and cons on Ford AND aftermarket coil packs

thank you in advance

When possible I try to stay with OEM brands. There are good aftermarket brands out there too

It seems to hinge on where the parts are manufactured.
May times the product will not show where they are made.and that is good enough for me to consider another brand.
I hope you see what I am attempting to say without actually saying it.

I've been around the Ford forums for over a decade now and the #1 tip is to use Motorcraft parts. They(filters) seem to be made as well as the more expensive add-ons/improvements. The only thing I am not sure of, is the 5.4 plugs. I'm new to the 5.4, but I've owned 3 V10s. Same technology(modular) bigger engine.

I have replaced many 5.4 aftermarket high performance coil packs with motorcraft coil packs to fix misfire issues.
Last two years or so ford did come out with a new better spark plug for the 5.4 that is far less likely to break.
