Remote Start COLD 2008 Expedition emergencyehicle?
#12
Thank you, all. Found a 200W magnetic block (oil pan) heater.
I drilled a hole in a broom handle to hold the magnetic block heater.
Reach the handle under but the only place to stick the heater is the oil pan.
I placed a bed sheet over the hood and front which helps keep lost heat in.
When an emergency call comes in, I unplug the heater and pull the rope attached to it and place the sheet in the Expedition.
Is there anywhere I can place the magnetic block heater and it will stick to the engine block? (Could I tie something to secure it?)
My comfort is unimportant. Just hate getting a cold vehicle up to high speeds (nearby arterial is 55 mph) not long after starting it.
Thank you.

If you get a quality engine block heater it works by heating the coolant.
When you start the vehicle warm coolant circulates immediately and you also get instant heat. The engine is warm and the trans is warm also. We had as do just about all emergency responders incl fire depts . a plug in that you were able to drive right out of the bldg and it would disconnect itself without ripping out the electrical connections.
There were always "first aiders" that didn't give a second thought to unplugging the electrical cords so we had to go to the self disconnecting type. I don't remember the manufacturer , but you can check with some fire depts or ambulance upfitters and they should be able to recommend one for you.
