Smoke under the hood and no more AC
I was driving my 2008 Lincoln Navigator and I had the AC cranked up all the way but it was taking longer than normal to get cold air. Then I heard some kind of squealing coming from somewhere and realized that there was white smoke pouring out of my hood and it smelled like burning rubber. Now my AC doesn't work.
We might have one of 2 possibilities.
If a tensioner pulley seized and destroyed the belt, not too bad.
If the air conditioning compressor seized, that can become expensive to repair, because, if it distributed burned and other foreign matter in the A/C system , that all has to to be flushed out . Some parts like the compressor, receiver/dryer(Accumulator), and maybe the condenser (the part in front of the radiator).will need to be replaced. Some condensers were not cooperative with the flushing procedure. I don't believe I overlooked anything, but the good folks on the forum will certainly let us know.
