Default Transmission problem

2006 Expedition Edie Bauer model. The transmission seems to be " slipping ". I put the vehicle in drive and it takes a couple seconds before before it engages and moves. Also when I brake, but not come to a complete stop, then try to accelerate the engine revs but again the transmission takes a few seconds before it will engage. When it does it usually makes a bang. The fluid was changed less than 10k miles. Any help ?
Thanks
Rich

Have you checked the transmission fluid level? Your symptoms sound like it may be low on fluid. Hopefully that is all of the problem, if not it will probably be a much more expensive fix.

That's the very first thing I checked. It was right where it should be.

Was the problem present 10,000 miles ago when the fluid & filter were changed?

No, it started less than 1,000 miles ago.

Take it to a reputable tranny shop and have them plug into it and see if the tranny is giving off any problem information, or you could try and put some Lukas transmission conditioner in it and see what happens. Make sure though to use the conditioner and not the tranny fix as the latter is for tranny's that are on the way out and will extend the life a little longer.

It's getting so I'm afraid to drive it. When I put it into drive it takes up to 30 seconds before the vehicle will move. Does anyone think it's worth dumping money into a 2006 with 99,500 miles on it ?

This can be a tough decision because it doesn't have to be an expensive fix, but there is no way of knowing without doing some diagnostic work. Most shops may push to replace the trans and very few would be willing to get into it because it could end up having to be replaced anyway. That's what makes it a tough decision. You might try getting a few estimates so you can decide if it is worth keeping it or trading it. Sometimes if the pump can't pull fluid through the filter for whatever reason it can display those symptoms.
