1996 ford explorer
Hello I am in need of some help figuring out what is wrong with my car I just bought I have been doing work on it everyday with no experience trying to learn and figure this out. My 1996 ford explorer Eddie Bauer edition 4.0 v6 A/C is not working properly I have checked all connections and power is going through. FROM the fuse box to my control panel is what seems to be the problem they are saying I have to find a wire back there to replace. Also taking it to the shop yesterday they did a diagnostic on it took all the Freon out and got it up to standers right now I am running wire to my battery and ac compressor to bypass the promblem but my mechanic said it is taking a risk . On the back wall we noticed some bubbles coming out maybe a leak to is happening. But here is the funny part when I bought the car I noticed the ignition key colum can spin around and it isn’t supposed to do that and I had the old one the car from previous owner I didn’t think anything of it until yesterday to replace it and hopefully that has something to do with it as well . Any idea or information would be great . Appreciate you in advance and thank you very much god bless and have a great weekend
The problem with the ign key tumbler and the linkage going down to the actual ign sw has to be straightened out before attempting to correct the A/C system problem.
If no one has messed with the wiring, it could all be related to where the ign sw is placed and what gets powered.
A lot of shops won't get involved with repairing that linkage and some even get a complete assy from a salvage yard.. It can take some patience and time to hopefully correct what somebody did when attempting to replace the ign tumbler.. It can be a little bit of a challenge to straighten it out, but would be worth the trouble.
.I don't believe there are any broken parts , just misaligned parts.
Most of the time just removing the coverings will allow access to the linkage, but we won't know for sure until we verify they didn't break anything.
This is a nice job sitting down and getting things back to correct places..
