Default 2003 Questions/Problems

I just bought a used 03 Explorer with 29k miles for a second vehicle. I noticed the shift lever is kind of tricky getting back up into the park position. Is there a trick to this or something or is the shifter faulty?

Also, I have the back up sensor thingy but the switch on the dash stays in the "off" position all the time. I try to switch it back to on but it switches right back off again. This did work when I bought the vehicle. Anyone know what may be up? The sensors on the bumper are clean and unobstructed.

Thanks in advance!

For anyone here who may be interested. The dealer told me some kind of solenoid on the brake pedal was bad and that is why the shifter is not going into park like it should. They ordered a new part, free of charge, to fix it!

Also, the back up sensor problem, one was bad but they need to replace them in pairs. He ordered two again, free of charge!

Thanks for the update...

The shift interlock solenoid is a fairly common problem. Also,, there is an access hole on the under side of the column covers to manually release the shifter should it be needed..

Glad they took care of you..

I backed out of the driveway and my 2002 explorer quit running. I tried to start it and the starter did nothing. I troubleshot it and if I bypassed the PCM the starter would turn over but no starting. Anyone have any suggestions?
