Default 2005 explorer running way too rich

i worked on a 2005 ford explorer 4x4 4.0l v6. i changed the valve cover gaskets and i had to remove the fuel rail from the passenger side of the engine and unplugged the injectors. i also did spark plugs and an oil change and coolant drain and fill. the vehicle is now running super rich and i dont know what the issue is. after all the work tha was done i only got 2 codes. P0463 and P2196. someone please help it is my neighbors vehicle and they are concerned about the vehicle. the vehicle also has alot of raw gas and white smoke coming from tail pipe.

If there were no codes before you started the job, then The first thing I would suggest is to recheck all your work.

Sometimes we leave off a ground wire and it is amazing how much trouble one little wire can cause.

If the MAF sensor is not giving the correct info to the computer which in this case is sensing extra air, the computer tries to compensate for this and enrichens the mixture a lot. Look for vacuum leak(s). too.

Did you get any coolant contamination on any of the O2 sensors?

O2 sensor was not contaminated. And I didn’t unbolt any wires just disconnected the clips. Is there a way to tell if the maf is inaccurately reading the air intake?

First a REMINDER;
Never unplug any sensors or components when the key is on.

If you unplug the MAF sensor ,other components will temporarily compensate for no MAF sensor. If the problem goes away . the sensor is suspect.
A scan tool that can provide MAF readings is the better way to check it.

Which one is the maf? The one by the throttle or the one by the air filter?

It is usually located between the air filter and the throttle body. Some have a piece of flex hose /line about 2-3 in diameter .
