Default 98 2wd Ball joints

I went in for an oil change and the mechanic let me know that my ball-joints need replacing. I have had tire wear issues for a while. I also hear a sort of clicking when I turn hard in either direction. What do you think is an average cost of this kind of repair?

if its both sides its going to be about $600 but if you do it your self its really simple and will cost you about $350 to $400 plus the price for an alighnment
