Default 98 explorer will not start HELP

Hi I have a 98 XLT 6cyl that will not start. I have lights, radio, power and a new battery but when I turn the key itsounds like it wants to start but instead I get the alot of rumbling and no engine running . If anybody has an ideas on where I can start looking I would really appreciate the help.

I went out this afternoon and checked the fuel pump and got a "whirr" sound. Then I checked the coil pack and it was fine, but when I checked the spark plugs I did not get any spark from them. So I bought a code reader but it will not give me anything. It says all the systems are not done doing a check.

well i don't know alot about vehicles but if its turning over with no start, it sounds like a fuel delivery issue. It could be your fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, severly clogged injectors, or something else might be clogged. I think you can check your fuel pump by turning your ignition to the on(but not trying to actually start it) position and back off, see if you can hear your fuel pump(i can hear mine kick on when i do that). if you can hear it, im guessin its good. Next i would say change out your fuel filter just for good measure, its cheap anyways. Thats all i really know anything about, hopes it helps some.

check your crank positioning sensor, seems like its not relaying signal to your ignition firing module, hopes this helps

I finally gave up and took it to the shop and they said it was the fuel pump. $355 for the parts and $295 for the labor. I went out in town and found the part for $198 and they agreed to install it.

I have a 98 Sport and have the same problem, Mine only seems to happen in extreme heat or cold. Dealer doesn't have a clue. When it happens I give it a little gas and it starts right up. These things ar quite tempermental.
