Default ABS Control Unit

Explorer XLT 2007 4.6 liter 4wd 141k miles.

In addition to replacing the ABS Pump Assy (which I can get new at FordPartsGiant), mechanic also suggested replacing the ABS Control Unit at same time to make sure ABS issues get
fixed. Mechanic suggests getting a new unit (and not a remanufactured one) saying that reprogramming is not always successful. Is that correct or any experience? Any ideas where I can
get a new unit (hard to find). Any comments are welcome. Thank you.

What was the exact problem and why you need to replace any parts in the first place?
You should get 2nd opinion and find another shop.

Okay I found your other thread titled ABS Issues and you ignored my reply. That said, you didn't need help from me, period.
If you don't appreciate my help, no problem, at the very least I can help other people who come across the same issue.
Your Ford Diagnostic scan.pdf shows that you have DTC C1095.



If you don't have a scan tool capable to follow this, no worry, just begin at C3 shown above.

C3 (red arrow as shown above):
- engine off key out (because it's hot at all time)
- remove abs module connector
- voltmeter black to chassis ground
- voltmeter red to pin 1 on the connector you just removed
C3-1 (blue arrow above):
- my personal addition, while you are at it, just do the same measurement to pin 32 as well and you expect to receive the same battery voltage.
C3-2 (blue arrow above):
- same as C3 and C3-1, but this C3-2 requires your key to be in ON position and you expect the same battery voltage.

You know what to check if any of the 3 test receives 0 volt.

C4 (red arrow as shown below):
- engine off key out
- remove abs module connector
- ohmmeter black to chassis ground
- ohmmeter red to pin 16 on the connector you just removed



Locate C155 in diagram below:




If you look at C5 you can tell you might not even need to replace the ABS control module.
Locate ABS_Module-Removal.pdf below to see how to remove the connector.
Pinpoint-M.pdf - ABS (yellow) light always on
Pinpoint-Y.pdf - Traction Control light always on

My intent is simple, just don't want you to get ripped off by the lazy/clueless mechanic, whether or not you appreciate my reply.

If you have to pay someone (who is clueless) $275 to replace the ABS module, you pay just $118.98 by getting
Foxwell NT630 Plus Foxwell NT630 Plus
If it doesn't get the job done or you don't like to keep it, just return it within 30 days risk free. Check ABS_Module-Removal.pdf you know it takes 2 minute to replace, if it's confirmed to be defective.

Thank you for in depth explanation and steps to consider and time you have spent.

Mechanic would charge me $900 in labor replacing ABS Control Unit and Pump (this includes $275 for reprogramming). This does not include parts.

On another note, this morning when I did couple of trips, the ABS and traction light did not come on. I'm sure it will come on again. Has done this many
times.

You should first try the test from C3 to C5, then clear the DTC and see. You might not even need to run the C2 test.
If you get that foxwell you should be able to run the active test to the pump as shown on C2. If you are lucky you might not even need to replace the pump and module, just need some cleaning using electrical contact cleaner.
