Battery Terminal Repair - Dealer wants over $1K
Looking for advice. I have. 2015 Ford Explorer and the positive battery terminal is cracked. No corrosion and had a shim holding it in place.
Dealer wants to rewire full battery system for over $1K because they say they cannot get a “Ford Approved Kit” to replace the cracked battery terminal.
Has anyone experienced this and what solution did you find was best?

Without actually seeing the condition , not smart in my book to comment until we see just why it could cost $1,000.00.
If the battery has a special cable and the system has to be reprogrammed to do a thorough job, it can cost some $$$.
Were you able to get an estimate explaining just what was included?

The issue is that the battery terminal end is only available with the harness, there is one cable that is crimped into the battery terminal end. This cable goes from the battery to the starter, alternator, and steering rack, along with some other ground wires along the way. It takes about 3 hours to replace the entire harness since its so extensive.
You can made an aftermarket battery terminal end clamp work but you will have to reroute the positive cable somewhat.
