Default blown hub?

I have a 93 explorer and when you engage the 4 wheel drive a grinding sound comes from the drivers side. Does this mean that the hub is blown and if so is it very difficult to replace on your own?

I replaced mine with manual locking hubs. I do have the old hubs off of my 1996 ranger. Iknow one of them is still good if it will fit. I,m in troy Mo.

Hard to tell if thats your problem without physically seeing it, but could also be a bad wheel u-joint on that side. Not really hard to replace hub if you just lay out your parts in order that you remove for easier installation.

I have a 93 Explorer and recently noticed a clunking when driving in 4WD. U-joints? Of course it started snowing again today.
