Default Cylinder 6 plug fouling over and over again 2003 xlt.

Hi! I have a 2003 ford explorer xlt, and the number six cylinder is constantly fouling the plug with oil. I have to replace the plug every two weeks or so. Not sure what is causing this, but hope one of the gurus here can help. thanks ahead of time, have a great day.

Matt

120,000 is not a lot of miles for rings to go bad, but there are oil control rings on the piston that could be cracked, possibly some dirt got in there and scored the cyl wall.
A compression test would help determine the possible cause. There are plug extenders that you can install in that spark plug hole that would help to keep the plug somewhat out of the oil field. Most auto stores should be able to help you out on this. Depending on how bad the oil contamination is , the extender should help to get a lot more life out of the plug. The problem really comes into the picture when that burned oil causes excess smoke out the exhaust and gets into the converter. It could end up destroying the converter. To do the job right would involve removing that side head and the oil pan so the piston can be removed and examined along with the cylinder wall. In the back of your mind will always be the condition of the converter.
