intake=more HP?
How much more horse power do you think a cold air intake would add to a 96 ford explorer xlt with a ohv 4.0L v6 and if any one could suggest a good intake for around $100 at max plz list it
Just did one myself today. I went the easy less expensive way too. I picked up a K&N cone style open air cleaner. Took the mini air manifold thats connected to the filter box and ground off the square flange. Making it round I could slip on the new K&N and off I GO!.....I have a 1998 SOHC 4.0 V6 EB edition. I'm presently getting 24mpg city and 36 hwy.
Believe it or not a WIX Filter would give you a little more air flow then the K&N although you have to replace the filter rather than charge it.... I am not big on a 24hr rechargable fillter.. I have to buy 2 just so i can drive while i am recharging the other... Also studies show you get better air flow through the WIX Filter.... And NO I am NOT A PARTS salesmen....
The average is 1HP for every 10 degrees of intake temperature drop. You want a smooth flowing intake. Turbulance is a HP killer. Alsowhen installing a COLD AIR intake, make sure that it is a TRUE cold air intake. If you're drawing air in from under the hood, it may sound cool, but your killing HP by drawing in HOT under-hood temperatures. Average under-hood temperature is about 190-210 degrees. On a 70 degree day, that could be up to a 12-15 HP gain or loss.
