Default radio troubles

i have a 97 ford exlporer eddie baure edition and my tape player will play a tape for a while then it will randomly switch to tape side 2 and say tape end and eject the tape. i think it is one of the heads in the tape player. but i dont know. im thinking of buying a new head unit. does anyone know ifthe tape playerjust needs to be cleaned or if it needs to bereplaced???

I'd use some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and try cleaning the heads good first. If you can't get at the heads or take it apart to get at them/it then I'd save the hassle and look for a factory replacement in good shape to swap in.
