Rear Hydraulic Tensioner Problem
Repair question/advice for a 05' Ford Explorer 4.0L (v6) SOHC (about 115K miles). Went to replace the rear hydraulic tensioner (cold start rattle) and ended up cross-threading the hole a little. Took it to a mechanic and he couldn't fix it. He ran a tap up through the hole to clean up the treads but even with a new tensioner oil spewed out all over. He said the aluminum head was done. Replacing the head is out of the question. Not worth the money it would cost. I'm considering using JB weld all around the outside tensioner head. I know that's a "forever" fix and could never be undone but given the age and value of the truck it's the most cost effective. Wondering what other people's thoughts might be.
