Rip off or not? Dealer Service costs
Ford dealer service costs for 2011 ford explorer:
58,500 miles
I know I could get some services cheaper but worried they wont be done right compared to ford dealer- is that naïve? Anyone know what the bottom 2 services are for and if they are worth it?
Replace spark plugs $415
Fuel Injection cleaning $140
Fuel optimizer $120
In addition to the $40 "the works" service.
Appreciate the input.
Thanks

Pretty sure this is not what you wanted to hear, but in certain parts of the country those rates would seem quite high and yet in other parts of the country they might be considered reasonable.
You didn't state why you visited the dealer, what the problem , if any, was and did they correct it. If you did a lot of stop and go driving some of what they did might be warranted, but not knowing all the info and circumstances would be foolish for me to say either way.
Hard to believe the plugs needed replacement with such low mileage, but again, don't know what the circumstances/problems were.

Some people say this is the real reason we haven't seen a practical, reasonably priced electric car. Service keeps the dealers in business. None of what you paid $675 for would even exist in an electric car. I don't know what "the works" is, but if it is oil and filter change, you wouldn't have that with electric either.
