Default Transmission jumped out of Park

The other day my 2005 Explorer was parked, idiling, with the a/c on for about 45 minutes. The vehicle then suddenly rolled forward, about 8 feet, up a 15 degree incline. A fence stopped the vehicle from going into a pool. There was no real speed to it, the fence did not even scratch the vehcile. When we opened the door to turn the vehicle off, it was still in "Park". The service department doesn't believe that this happened, I was told "No way, that is impossible". I have at least 50 witnesses to the incident. Nobody was hurt and no damage was done. I'm just trying to see if anyone else has had this happen or heard about it happening.

I have never heard of this and have been working on Fords for some time now. Does the shifter act normal now?

Yes, everything works fine. The shifter never moved, it was still in "park". I'm a Police Officer and if someone ever told me this at an accident scene, I would be quite skeptical; but it happened.

I have read your post and found a TSB (techinal service bulliten) on the shift linkage. So I assume ford is aware of the problem. But the TSB states.Hard to shift from drive to park.So it may not have been in park all the way. Here is the link. http://www.ford-trucks.com/tsb/tsb.p...-2005/t-042212

I thought about it not being in park all the way, but it sat idiling for 45 minutes and the next gear down is reverse so if it wasn't in park all the way it would have slipped to reverse. Hopefully the service center won't just tell me "we coudn't find anything".

Well print that TSB and bring it with you when you take it in. Also check back in a little while and I will see if there is a recall on this.
