1985 F-150 i need help
Alright here's the deal... i bought a 1985f-150. As i was driving it home it broke down. It seemed to berunning finethen a sputter and it died. I towed it home and havn't been able to get it started since. Heres what i have done... I replaced the battery, the ignition coil, both terminals to battery, and new spark plugs. I noticed that the distributor cap had a crack in it, after further inspection the crack became a huge hole. i replaced the cap and the rotor and cleaned the distributor. When i pulled the distributor i saw the roll pin that connects the gear to the shaft was sheared completely. i replaced that, and reinstalled the distributor. ( retimed to TDC as well... only not sure if it's on the compression stroke or not, thats one of my questions, how do i know its at TDC for sure?)... i also had the Ignition Module tested and it passed...i checked to see how much voltage i am getting from my ignition coil to my distributor... 12v.. then i tested to see how much voltage i am getting from my distributor to my spark plugs...0v... so im thinking either a) a bad ground or b) i have a bad stator and need a new distributor or c) my ECM is fried. Im really hoping the resolution is either a) or b) but im just looking for a little advice maybe im missing something simple.
If it has the ignition module on the side of distreibutor, that would be a good suspect. They are a known failure item. To see if it is on compression stroke, remove #1 plug and bump engine over until you feel pressure coming out. Then check your timing pointer and your rotor to see if it is pointing in the correct position.
Thanks for the reply... I had the ignition module tested, they ran it through the test three times and it passed... I was reading a couple other forums and someone said there is a coil inside the distributor... i'm now thinking that may have been damaged. The distributor has a screw on cap and one of the screwscame looseand bounced around inside, tore up the rotor, and blasted through the cap... im thinking it did more damge to the internal components now. The stator or a coil if it has one
Well i bought a new distibutor and got it installed but yet she still wont start... im pretty stumped i think i have to replace the ECM now... i dont even know where it is located... any ideas?
