2003 Ford F150XL 4.2L blowing cold air with AC off
Hello:
My AC works and the heat works. I just had a new AC compressor put in.
My truck has 169,000 miles on it.
When I have the temperature dial turned down all the way I get cold air coming out of all vents.
I can turn the dial to heat and get heat from all vents.
I can turn the AC on get AC through all the vents.
I have seen that the problem is actuator blend door stuck. This could be an expensive fix for me.
Can I just not get it fixed and leave as is since I can get AC and heat or will this cause some other problem down the road?
Thank You

I drive with AC turned off and see a water spot under my truck after parking it.
There is quite a few different type of climate control unit, send a pic of yours here if possible. The recirculating button might not be available.
You need to understand how climate control works in your truck.
The A/C compressor will run at all times when engine is running EXCEPT when you turn the dial to OFF or FLOOR. So it doesn't matter your temperature dial is at COOL or WARM. Whenever you turn the dial to Max A/C, A/C, Panel, Panel & Floor, Floor & Defrost and Defrost the A/C compressor will run.
So what you're saying is the A/C is turned on automatically even when you turn the dial to OFF??
Anyway can you try this:
First make sure your truck is in operating temperature or at least been driven for 10 minutes
Turn the speed dial to HIGH
Turn the temperature dial to COOL
Turn the mode dial to PANEL
Then you get fresh air pulled from your engine bay at ambient temperature, let it runs this way for 2 or 3 minutes, then you turn just the temperature dial to WARM, do you get warm air? When doing so the air will still be pulled from your engine bay at ambient temperature but it will go thru your heater box (that's attached to your heater core) because your blend door is opened on demand by you when you turn the dial to WARM to allow warm air accumulated inside the heater box to pass thru. When you select COOL the blend door is closed, blocking the warm air from your heater box to flow thru the duct. You said there might be a problem with the blend door that's why you can try this.

I will try what you said to do.
I look on you tube and the talk is about actuator blend door is stuck and how to fix, namely take the dashboard out.
There seems to be a work around where you cut through under the glove box.
They claim the actuator blend door sticking is a common problem on 2003 ford f150
I can turn on AC , panel, floor, panel and floor, defrost and max air (recirculate)
I can turn the temperature up and get warm and hot air through the vents.
I can turn the temperature all the way down (cool) and cold air comes through the vents that feels like air conditioning this is when it is 80F.

I mentioned previously when you set the mode dial to FLOOR the A/C compressor will stop running.
So can you also try this:
Turn the speed dial to HIGH
Turn the temperature dial to COOL
Turn the mode dial to PANEL & FLOOR (still not sure which HVAC unit you have)
If A/C is running and working properly you won't get cold air from FLOOR.
From this test if you get cold air from the floor that means A/C is not running automatically by mistake.
