Hi everyone I have a 2012 F150 XLT its a great truck, everything except the front brakes LOL i have changed the front brakes twice in the 4 yrs ive owned it theyll be fine for awhile then theyll start sticking drivers side seems to be the worst the rim is black with brake dust, passenger side a bit too but not near as bad...Ive changed the rotors and pads first time {just routine} but after that they started to stick so i changed the calipers and pads was great for awhile then they started sticking again... i would like to just get them fixed and be done with em LOL so im thinking of getting and aftermarket front brake kit as an upgrade rotors, pads,calipers and brake hoses does anyone have a recommendation as to which kit i should look into? and any suggestions on what may be going on with the brakes would be appreciated too im gonna upgrade them anyways because i haul a boat with it but if theres something else to look into that could be something that may need changed too... any suggestions advice would be appreciated, thanks

 

When you start changing things you open the possibility for more problems.

Suggest you find the cause of the present problem, repair it, and you may not need to shell out a lot of $$$ and still have the same problem.

 

When you install the pads, do they float in the caliper, or are they tight ?

If they float in the caliper, when they lock up is it because the caliper did not release ?

 

Faulty brake hoses can act as a one way check valve, not allowing the caliper to release. Best way to determine what is going on is to crack open the bleeder screw when the caliper is hung up. If the caliper releases, look at brake hoses and check towards the master cylinder. If the caliper does not release, you have an issue with the caliper, sticking caliper slides, hardware or pad issues. I have found that the inner pad will wear faster if the caliper is not releasing and the outer pad will wear faster if its hardware or caliper slide related.

 

I've noticed the two slide pins are different. One has a rubber sleeve. Does anyone know why and if they are position specific or reversible?

This is a 2006 XL and I found a thread advising that the pin with the rubber sleeve goes in the bottom.
