Default 86 f150 trubles (fuel pump ?)

I have a 1986 (built late in 86 so could be consder a 87)ext cab xlt with a 302 fuel injected with duel tanks . heres what happened i went out and started the truck it took rite off went and let it warm up alittle it was cold out after about 10 min, i went out and started to back out of the drive and gave it a little gas and she died but when i cranked it . it starts to putter like shes about to go then nothing but the cranking so i thought FUEL PUMP i took line off and its pumping fuel so now iam baffeled so i take my Haynes book out it tells me to ck the Inertia switch which is by the brake peddle or on the right kick panel ok no switch switch there (if someone took this switch out will the pump still run or am i just being a male and not looking close enough ?)then i read i might have more then one pump( ok who thought this one up)[:@] would the tank pump run fuel threw the pump on the frame and make me think that the pump on the frame is working ?
ok thats where iam at with this thing any thoughts?

You really need a pressure gauge to screw on the pressue rail of the fuel system to see what kinda pressure your getting

under the hood by the washer bottle an airfilter , If I remember rite , there should be 2 relays a brown one , for the EEC system , an then a green one for the fuel pumps , when you turn the key on , you should be able to hear an feel this relay click on,,

if the relay is working, normally you can hear the high pressure pump on the frame rail buzz for a few seconds , this you can also feel if you put your hand on it an have someone turn the key on.

you have a low pressure pump in the tank , an a high pressure pump on the frame , if you have dual tanks there will be a low pressure pump in each tank. So you need to find out which pump is working , when is the last time you changed the fuel filter ??

I have found the elec plug going to the tank pump have burnt connecters giving you a bad ground or a bad power circuit

i agree with ramrod but i think that it may be the high pressure fuel pump, or maybe even the fuel pressure regulator, but if it works fine on the rear tank, i think it's probably the high pressure pump
