One way to check for spark---
Take one of your old spark plugs and put one of the spark plug wires on it and have the metal part of the plug touching a good ground like the head or block, then when cranking the engine you should see a good consistent spark as long as the engine is being cranked. Of course if the engine starts at this time you have spark too. What you are trying to determine is ; do you have spark or not. If that engine will not start for you when this problem happens don't worry if you have no spark you will be able to see it at the test plug. Then if you confirm that you have spark and fuel it should start. Let me know what you find and we can go from there. hanky

What codes did the check pull up? They should be two digit codes. Give me the numbers and I will check them and let you know exactly what they cover. OK ? Also in the process of locating the fuel pump relay were you able to locate the EEC or power relay? The power relay is the one that picks (clicks) on when you turn the key on and stays on(picked) until you turn off the key. hanky

Do you have access to a known good ECA ? The reason I'm asking is; they had a load of problems back in those early days with a cracked ground connection on the printed circuit board in the ECA (computer). If all else fails to pin down the problem we might need to substitute another ECA. Stay in touch. ,,,,,,,,hanky

here is what I did when my truck died after running for 20 minutes at idle I poured water onto the fuel regulator which is on the fuel rail and I started up and stayed running for another 20 minutes and if I kept it running and kept pouring water on it it would stay running so could it be my fuel regulator

the only codes that is brought up is that it can not read the oxygen sensor and yesterday I changed the fuel regulator and it still died but some day this week I might just rap my fuel rail in some heat resistant tape and hope for the best

sounds like we are having similar problem. my 89 f150 straight 6 ran ruff died. shot fuel in intake would run as long as i added fuel. drained entire fuel system, ran pure gas no ethanol, after a couple of tanks ran fine until yesterday. driving along and no spit or sputter just died. believe electronics effected by heat here in AL. 101 temp. when truck died. after cooled started right up. drove today temp 95 didn"t die. can drive during hot weather but if i shut it off have to wait to restart. sound familiar?
