Default 95 f150-Stuck in 2nd Gear?

I've got a '95 F150 5 speed. Today when I was on the road and went to put it in 2nd, the shifter hit the seat. Obviously not the proper 2nd gear position.

Also, the past few days, when I go to put it in reverse it won't reverse until I put it back in first and fiddle around with it, then slide it into reverse again.

Can anybody offer me any insight? Thanks in advance, anything helps.

Just a guess but sounds like the bushing for shift linkage is worn out. pull the boot up and see what it looks like ?
Guess you could always stay in 2nd gear ? Always go foward ? ?

If you remove the floor pan cover over the trans , you should be able to lift the boot and check the ball on the shift lever. They have a habit of wearing out and getting real sloppy and difficult to shift into the correct gears. If that is all it is , it can be easily repaired without removing the trans.
