distributor timing

Default distributor timing

i have a 1988 f150 4x4 with a smallblock 302 in it and im having trouble gitting the timing set we tried to set it 15426378 as listed by factory. it will crank wen set but no matter what we tried it wont run properly we ended up having to set it back to where it was before

Can you provide the 8th digit of the vehicle ID #
OR the entire vin, nothing like starting from scratch, thanks.

does it matter that the motor isnt the original. one of the previous owners had put this one in so its not the original

From the info I have , a carburetor 5.0L engine used a firing order of 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8
A EFI engine used the firing order of 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8.
Both firing orders on the caps were counterclockwise.
I can't at this time explain why they used different firing orders except if the engine never ran right ,you could see what happens if you try the different firing order.

the 5.0 i have is efi so it should use the 13726548 ill have to git back to you om what the firing order really is but its really far off

also i thought to ask how to tell if you have a 351or 302 because the motor doesn't actually say otherwise all i know is the intake matches that of the 302 in the bronco i have but there are also some differences between the two

I believe the firing order for the 305 and 351 EFI engine is the same.

ok so ither way it dont really matter witch one is witch just as long as there is the correct timing
